Planetes Vol. 1 by Makoto Yukimura.

What I really liked about this work was the art. At times it was cartoonish, aloof, and yet at others it was dark and real-life. Yukimura's adapability really pulled this off. The story was better than average, but there was only one part of the graphic novel that had me on the edge of my seat -- Nono's revelation. Other than that, the plot was interesting, but not spectacular. The art though, was thoroughly enjoyable.

Facing Death in Cambodia by Peter Maguire.

Maguire uses his academic war crimes background to explain how the Khmer Rouge leaders who led over 2 million Cambodians to their deaths were not held accountable for their actions. He travels to Cambodia several times over the course of a decade and interviews those who had served a role in the Cambodian Khmer Rouge period, including many who served at Tuol Sleng prison, where many Cambodians were kept until they met their end.

Maguire finds out what sounds as if it would be a conclusion too easy to achieve: that Western governments propped up the Khmer Rouge because they thought the threat of Vietnamese communism was greater. In the end, Maguire finds that the Khmer Rouge stayed in power because Western globalism superceded human rights.

Can't Make This Up.
"But people seem to really enjoy the ability to pinch someone's ass, digitally," said Yitzhak Wasileski, a Chicago student and Assbook entrepeneur. "So who am I to deny them that?"
It's all here.

New Respect for Reason.

Because of this:
And yet, despite the craptacular nature of at least four out of six Star Wars movies, there's little doubt that no film event has been more anticipated than Revenge of the Sith (with the possible exception -- and in France only -- of the next Asterix et Obelix extravaganza).

I don't need to launch into a diatribe about the redundancy of "ginormous" or "confuzzled," but "lingweenie" certainly is a good one.
A "lingweenie" -- a person incapable of making up new words -- placed 10th.

Finish line is in sight, and the semester is almost over. My summer is packed to the brim, but I should make sure I hit the library this week and pick up a few books, including “Everything Bad Is Good for You,” by Steven Johnson.
