From the library reviews:
BOP: More Box Office Poison, Alex Robinson, Top Shelf. Robinson's follow-up to Box Office Poison is witty and intelligent and offers a great look at the essentials of human existence in modern society. The art is great as usual, especially some of the faces, which are often used superbly to convey the characters' emotions. And even though this is a collection of short stories rather than one full-length novel, it's still good. "Cartoonist's Widow" is my favorite from the collection.
The Interman, Jeff Parker, Octopus. This is a story about a secret Cold War government program to create a super-being, one who is able to control his or her own DNA and manipulate their body as necessary. The story, to me, seemed weak and a bit cliche, but maybe I've read too many political and espionage novels. The art is pretty generic, too; it's there, but nothing really stands out. It's a great book for a younger adult, but I think I'm a little too old for it.
White Flower Day, Steven Weissman, Fantagraphics. This book, too, didn't thrill me much, although I did think the art was fantastic. However, the stories just did nothing for me, and I'm not sure why. The book, I should mention, is a collection of three stories, and I think it was the first one, "I Saw You," that turned me off. Again, great art, but the story didn't draw me in.

I picked up Love Fights #10 at the local discount book store yesterday. I was quite shocked to find that there for two reasons: one, usually the small/alternative press books I find there I haven't heard of or look really bad and two, the published date on the book is June 2004 -- just last month.
So this comic made it into someone's hands and then to the discount book store in about a month. That's just weird when you think about it. Why would someone buy that comic in the first place if they (I assume) were not interested in keeping it longer-term?
Anyway, I've got a huge pile of unread stuff now, so I should get to it. I'll be posting reviews sometime soon.

Another trip to the local comic book store netted me the following:
Demo #8
The Collected Hutch Owen Vol. 1 (Top Shelf, by Tom Hart)
Jetcat Clubhouse #1 (Oni, April 2001)
The Pants Ant Trouser Hour (Slave Labor Graphics, July 2001)
The latter two were in the $1 bins that were new to the store since my last visit; this is a development that thoroughly excites me. I cannot describe it at present.
I'm also delighted to grab something by Tom Hart -- I've read a couple issues of The Sands that I've found egregiously placed in discount bins and quickly grabbed them up.
And Demo, well, what more can I say about this series that hasn't already been mentioned in the comic blogosphere, except for the fact that it's the only series that I currently buy on a monthly basis (thank you Brian and Becky).
Of course, add in the comics from yesterday's trip and the ones (including a few graphic novels and TPBs) in my still to-read pile, and I think I've hit my comics cravings for ... a week, probably.

I picked up some comics at a discount book store yesterday. I got a few interesting comics for only $3.50, quite a deal.
Everwinds #1 (Amaze Ink, August 1997)
Felon #1 (Top Cow, November 2001)
Hieroglyph #2 of 4 (Dark Horse, December 1999)
Thieves & Kings #15 (I Box Publishing, 1997)
The Dark Knight Strikes Again #1 of 3 (DC, 2001)
Yes, I bought a superhero comic, but it's Frank Miller, and it was only $1 (a $7.95 cover price), so I felt I couldn't go wrong. I'm also excited to check out Thieves & Kings -- I've heard good things about the series, but have been reluctant to pick up a TPB.
Man, I love that store.

Alex S. Jones compares bloggers to know-it-alls in bars:
"However, bloggers, with few exceptions, don't add reporting to the personal views they post online, and they see journalism as bound by norms and standards that they reject. That encourages these common attributes of the blogosphere: vulgarity, scorching insults, bitter denunciations, one-sided arguments, erroneous assertions and the array of qualities that might be expected from a blustering know-it-all in a bar."

As far as Free Comic Book Day goes, I was really impressed, for the most part. In both of the two comic book stores I visited that day, there were far more customers than I had ever seen in those respective stores before.
The first store I visited is only a few blocks away from my apartment, but I had only been the once before. It's a fairly new store, small, and carries DC, Marvel, Image and a independent title here and there; by and large, it caters to the mainstream. It's a clean store, too. The first time I went, I was the only one there, and I bought a Cerebus issue. Saturday, it was pretty packed; there were probably around eight to 10 people in the store but, considering its size, that's a lot.
The second store is the one I frequent most often. It's about 12 miles away from home, large, and carries mainstream, independent, alternative, manga and had a large selection of other comics-related paraphernelia. There was a good 15 to 25 people there, by far the most crowded I've ever seen it. The store is clean and the atypical comic book store. However, one of the guys giving away free comics was loud. That certainly wasn't too egregious in and of itself, however, he kept making comments about stuff that shouldn't be talked about on such a day in such a loud voice, eg: Halle Berry as Catwoman. There were young children in the store, and some of the comments he made should have been made in a much more concerted effort, considering the nature of the day. I'm a bit upset about it as that store is the best comic book store as far as selection, cleanliness and friendliness I've ever seen, yet that guy certainly didn't help dispell any myths about comic book stores.
