Dominic P. Papatola of the St. Paul Pioneer Press wishes the U.S. would declare war on moronism.

From the article:

At a press conference Friday in Washington, Gioia unveiled a Moron Alert System, under which all concerts, plays and recitals would be color-coded to identify what the chairman referred to as "heightened and specific" threats to the integrity of a given performance.

Yesterday, I visited my local comic book store and walked away with:

Badlands
Hey, Mister: The Fall Collection

I'll have some thoughts on Demo coming up.

A Squid Contest? That's what Grotesque Anatomy proposes. (Link via Thought Balloons.)

It's an interesting proposition, but I'd really like to read issue #2 first.

I've read the first one, and it was beautiful; witty, fun and entertaining, just as everyone has already said. However, the one thing that didn't seem to fit right, at least for me, was the ending. It was a good ending, but I thought it was too abrupt. At the end, I just had a twinge of unfulfillment, and I think that was in part because the end just didn't come slow enough; it's like riding a roller coaster and being pushed down the exit before you are even aware you're out of the ride.

Will I buy issue #2? Probably, if only to check out the squid.

I need to set goals for my writing. I often feel bogged down by the ideas floating about in my head, and my biggest problem is usually getting them from my head onto paper (or electronically, in some cases).

Based on the fact that most of my writing is usually in two forms, poems and short stories, I've come up with an idea. So, for now, I've set a couple of goals for my writing:

1. Write everyday.
2. Write at least one poem everyday.
3. Write at least one short story every week.

I went to the comic book store today, and bought the following:

Lumakick #1
Street Angel #1
Demo #6 and 7

It's nice to acually buy individual comics for once, even if it isn't a trend that will likely continue. I've only heard good things about Demo and Street Angel from many different comic bloggers, and the Lumakick description at Previews Review hooked me. I look forward to posting my thoughts about these comics, and with a recent hefty paycheck, anticipate checking out some other titles.

The next time I go to the comic book shop, I'm going to check out a few titles, namely 100 Bullets, Age of Bronze, Demo, Lumakick and Street Angel.

For me this is a big change-up, since I normally only buy graphic novels or trades. The only single-issue comics I've bought recently were for the purpose of fulfulling my collection from when I stopped years ago.

The real question, however, remains: Will I continue to buy single-issue comics of those series I like? Probably not, but I won't be as hesitant to check out titles about which I've heard good things.

Painting.

I've neglected painting for quite some time now, as I have done with some other things, but I want to get back to doing so. I've got quite a few paintings started and need to be finished; I also have quite a few ideas for new paintings.

But I can't forget the ode to Guan Yu and the starscapes.

Webcomics.

I've spend a good portion of the past three days at The Webcomics List sorting through 342 webcomics and setting my preferences. It's a great site; I'm glad I stumbled into it.

A couple of my favorites? Daily Dinosaur Comics, The Adventures of Spelling the Vacuum, Bob the Angry Flower and Rehabilitating Mr Wiggles.
